Have a session idea for the IBMA Business Conference that could spark meaningful conversation, share valuable insight, or help move the bluegrass community forward? The IBMA Education Committee invites artists, industry professionals, educators, and innovators to propose sessions that address the real-world opportunities and challenges facing today’s music industry.

What We're Looking For

The IBMA Education Committee welcomes proposals that explore a wide range of topics, including:

  • Music business trends and practices
  • Artist development and career sustainability
  • Marketing, branding, and audience growth
  • Touring, booking, and live performance strategies
  • Recording, publishing, and rights management
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and community-building
  • Innovation, technology, and the future of bluegrass

Whether your idea is practical, forward-thinking, or big-picture, we’re interested in sessions that are engaging, informative, and actionable.

Session Formats

Conference sessions typically follow one of these formats:

  • Panel discussion: Three to four presenters from different backgrounds discuss a topic together and engage with the audience.
  • Presentation: A presenter delivers an educational talk or lecture on a focused topic.
  • Round Table: Four to six simultaneous, topic-based discussions led by table leaders and coordinated by a moderator. Audience participation is encouraged.
  • Workshop or Demonstration: In-depth, hands-on learning or skills training.
  • Pitch Event: Attendees pitch ideas or material to a panel of experts for constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Networking Event: Designed to connect two or more industry groups, such as broadcasters and labels, to build or strengthen business relationships.
  • Other: Innovative or nontraditional formats are welcome.

Selection Process

All proposals are reviewed by the IBMA Education Committee and evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • How well the proposal addresses current and future issues facing the bluegrass community.
  • The potential to offer new knowledge, insights, or practical value to attendees.
  • Feasibility of the proposed session goals
  • Clarity and coherence of the session concept and objectives
